In the past few weeks, Aksyon Kalikasan activities dwindled. We are very sorry about this. There is no single reason. All of us in the Board are volunteers working on our individual full time jobs. I suppose many of us got busy with some transitions in our work and because many equally important things needed our attention. The elections and the summer vacation for schools also affected us because most of our activities are in partnerships with government and schools. The good news is that we are back and we are struggling to get back to the momentum we need to push further our targets this year.
The Board of Trustees had a recent online meeting and we will meet again middle of next week to finalize preparations for the convening of our First General Assembly of all members in both Cavite and Metro Manila Chapter this coming August 27 2016 (Saturday) in SAFI Integrated Learning Center in Tagaytay City, Cavite. The GA will elect a new set of Board of Trustees as well as provide basic orientation about our work to encourage and empower new members to be able to engage activities and projects of the organization more meaningfully and more frequently.
For the month of June, we are conducting three activities under our ECO EDUCATION PROJECT to commemorate the 4 green events in June. These are: the June 5 World Environment Day (WED), the June 8 World Ocean's Day, the June 17 World Day to Combat Desertification and the June 25 National Arbor Day.
For June, our theme for the month remains to be
"AKSYON KALIKASAN THROUGH ECO EDUCATION". We will be organizing three activities as follows: 1) June 5 World Environment Day GREEN SEMINAR on Illegal Wildlife Trade in the Philippines, 2) June 8 World Ocean's Day ECOTOUR and COASTAL CLEAN UP and 3) June 25-26 CONSERVATION WORKCAMP on AGROFORESTRY and SOIL CONSERVATION with our participation in the re-launch of the regular reforestation work of the Cavite provincial government in the Buhay Forest in Magallanes, Cavite. Details HERE.
As June is the beginning of the school calendar, we hope that we will be able to invite students from relevant schools in Cavite for the June 25-26 Conservation WorkCamp on Agroforestry and Soil Conservation as participants. As for the June 5 Green Seminar on Illegal Wildlife, we expect just the members of the NCR chapter and their friends and family to attend this. For the June 8 Ecotour and Coastal Clean Up, we expect Cavite chapter members and their friends and family to participate. Both activities will double as chapter meetings.
For July, our theme for the month is "GREENING RURBAN (RURAL-URBAN) DEVELOPMENT" that will have emphasis on the need of ecosystem-based DRRM-CCA (Disaster Risk Reduction & Management and Climate Change Adaptation) since the whole of June is Disaster Consciousness Month. The proposal is to work with the LGU and MENRO of Silang Cavite to organize the First Aksyon Kalikasan Forum on these topics on July 16 Saturday. This is still part of our ECO EDUCATION PROJECT. This will start our more strategic engagement with the LGU in Silang where Aksyon Kalikasan is based. Details soon.
For August, our main activity is the Aksyon Kalikasan 1st General Assembly on August 27.
For August, our theme for the month is "PROTECTING & ENHANCING INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' RIGHTS AND YOUTH RIGHTS AS KEY TO CONSERVATION" so we will ask the NCR chapter to organize a GREEN SEMINAR ON THE RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLE in an appropriate venue in Metro Manila. One options is to do this in the Green Exposition of the Luntian Center for Environmental Governance/ Luntian Movement on August 8 to 12 to be held in Marikina Riverbanks Mall (Citymall). August 9 is International IP Day so that would be a perfect day for this.
On the other hand since August 12 is International Youth Day and this is a Friday, we may want to consider to convene a YOUNG GREENS LEADERSHIP CAMP as a pre-GA event on August 13 Friday eve to August 15 (Sunday). Perhaps if the Yen Center at IIRR in Silang is available, we can do it here. The Youth wing of the Luntian Movement is convening a youth assembly on the 12th in that Green Exposition in Marikina and we can partner with them to link these two events.
May I know you views and opinion on this please? Thanks
